Valentine's Day nail art + how to do them :)
Hello :)
Since Valentine's Day is almost around the corner, then it's about time to get your nails looking perfect, right? Maybe it's just me...
Anyway we have the excuse to wear cute nails, with hearts and roses and teddy bears and put on the playlist we secretly have of cheesy love songs.
Today I'm going to talk you through 3 different nail art ideas suitable for the season. They're a bit different in difficulty and for 2 of them you don't need any particular tools either, I'll talk about that later.
Nail art number 1: Hearts (I know, I'm so original)
Level of difficult: Beginner
Time: 10 minutes per hand or more, if your nail polishes dry longer.
You need: base coat, top coat at least 2 differently coloured nail polishes. maybe red and white, as I did, but any colours will do, a dotting tool (or a toothpick, old pen, pencil, anything with a small pointy end, that you're not afraid to dip into nailpolish), some paper or piece of plastic, you're not very fond of.
Step one: Apply base coat to protect your nails and make your nail art last longer. It's important, never skip this step!!
Step two: Paint your nails your desired colour, you can make all different or the same, or make one accent nail, whatever you wish, just paint them.
We're just going to pretend that my nails aren't completly different in lenght and shape.
You also get a thumb view :)
Step three: Choose a nail polish, that is not the same colour as your base colour, put a drop of it onto some paper and dip your dotting tool into it, draw hearts along the centre of your nail. You can draw hearts by making little V-shapes, practice on paper first, if you're new to nail art. I also added dots to the sides of the hearts. Do that to all nails and hope that you won't mess anything up.
Option 1
Thumb view :)
Step four: let nails dry for a little while and add top coat to seal in your design and make it last longer, also inmportant!
Nail art number 2: Roses (Again, original)
Level of difficulty: Beginner to Intermediate
Time: about 15-20 minutes per hand
You need: base coat, top coat, 1 base colour, 2-3 rose colours of your choice, light, medium and dark, 1-2 leaf colours, or more if you wish, dotting tool, some paper or piece of plastic.
Step one: base coat.
Step two: base colour, again you can have more than one base colours as well.
Step three: do medium sized white dots, which don't have to be perfectly round. Depending on the polish you chose as your base colour, you might have to start with the darkest of your rose colours, if the background itself is light, otherwise the lightest of your rose colours, which for me happened to be white.
Step four: with your dotting tool and medium toned rose colour, draw spirals inside the dots you made in step three.
Step five: it's optional, but if you want to you can add a bit of shadows with your darkest rose colour, or highlights with your lightest colour.
Step six: with the dotting tool drag leaves along the sides of the roses, make as many as you wish or skip this step alltogether.
Step seven: add shadows or highlights to your leaves, also optional.
Step eight: top coat.
And you're done, wasn't that difficult.
Nail art number 3: Teddy bears, flowers, hearts and stuff...
Difficulty: as difficult, as you make it.
Time: depens how difficult you make it.
You need: a few different shades of teddy bear colour, or one teddy bear colour that you mix with black and white, you also need black and white anyway and a base colour, heart colour, a dotting tool and a detailing brush (a black nail art pen, optional).
Step one: base coat.
Step three: draw the head of your bear with a detailing brush on as many nails as you wish, I made them on two. Use the lightest of your teddy bear colours.
Step four: draw little flowers on the nails you didn't draw teddy bear heads. You can also just make dots on those nails, or mix and match as I did.
Step five: Add shadows, where you feel suiting.
Step six: somewhere along thos steps also draw hearts for the bears, I made some floating ontop of the bear's head or in it's hand.
Step seven: give your bear eyes and nose, add a bit of shadows here and there, make a design for the heart, play around, if you wish.
Step eight: top coat.
Done :)
It's perfectly ok, if your bears ended up looking more like koalas...mine sort of did.

If somewhere you got nail polish outside the lines of your nails, you can clean it up with a small brush and some nail polish remover, to make it look cleaner, also let them dry well, otherwise you might ruin the beautiful design you've made.
That's it for today, but we have more nail art designs coming up in the future, so you can feel free to follow our blog, if you wish to see them.
