Jersika's Chips Review

Hello :)

Today we're here with a chip review, yes another one. We saw a very interesting selection of chips in our local store, that clamed that they are new and innovative, since they have not been fried in oil, naturally we were interested and also a little hungry so we grabbed two bags to eat and review.

The two flavours that we picked out were cheese and sour cream, which are both rather traditional choices and therefore easier to compare. Let's just get straight into the review. The texture of the chips is rather unusual, they're very airy and light, which also means that you get more chips for the same weight, they're very pleasant to eat, flavourful and crunchy, all of which are important qualities to have in chips. The chips, although lower in fat, are still a rather high source of carbohydrates and calories, but we personally feel they're a better choice for those who follow their macronutrients or eat a If-It-Fits-In-Your-Macros type of diet, since eating them doesn't instantly cause your calories from fats to skyrocket.

Both of the flavours were very good, but we probably preferred sour cream just a bit more than cheese, however eating them together is the best option, since they do balance eachother out. There are actually more flavours that they offer, but our store didn't have all of them.

For the price, I feel like they are worth it, in comparison to some chips, which have been made with a similar techinque and have a similar texture, they are cheaper. For example there are some popped chips by Marks&Spencer, which are also very good, but slightly more expensive.

Since I already mentioned macronutrients before, I'm going to bring out the macros for both of the flavours, I'll also say before starting that at least the package of sour cream chips that we had, had the incorrect amount of energy in kcal, it said on the package 626 kcal per 100 g, which is obviously a lot, but by calculations of macronutrients and comparison to the kJ amount of energy, I figured they had simply put 6 instead of 4 and it should be closer to 426 kcal (428,5 according to my calculations), which, yes, is still a lot, but more logical. Anyway, lets start with the sour cream chips then: Per 100 g, 15,7 g of fat, of which 1,1 g of saturated fats, 67,3 g of carbohydrates, of which 5 g of sugar and 4,5 g of protein. That according to percentage of energy would be 33%/63%/4%, which is a lot closer to the recommendated amounts than most chips we've found. When I started looking into it, I also noticed that the amout of energy of the cheese chips was a little off, I don't know if they have made some mistake with the amounts of macronutrients or calories, but either way they do not even up, not even anywhere close. Anyway, according to the package per 100 g: 572 kcal (my calculations: 429,8), 15,8 fat (33%), 1,1 saturated fat, 67,1 g carbohydrates (62%) and 4,8 g protein (5%).

Anyway other than those odd numbers on the label, we had no complaints, it's a new company so it's understandable that it takes time to get everything right, we still recommend them and will most likely buy their chips again.

Kaiela :)
