Eat Real Hummus, Lentil and Quinoa Chips: Review

Hello :)

Today I am here with another snack review. This time it's the Eat Real Vegan chips, which are made of hummus, lentils or quinoa. They are a much healthier choice compared to regular potato or corn chips. They are generally lower in fat, with the exception of the quinoa chips, they also contain slightly less salt and have more fiber, so sounds good. In addition to all that, they are also rather inexpensive and, at least here, they can be found in more different shops than most "healthy" chips.

We have tried quite a few different flavours by now and we were also happy to see, that they actually come in two different sized pacakges, although the exact weight of the product depends also on the particular type of chips, for example, quinoa chips are usually packed in smaller packages weight wise, maybe because they're lighter and therefore the volume is about the same for all. However, there are also two different sizes to choose from, a smaller and a larger bag.

I'll start with probably our least favourite, which were quinoa chips, they weren't bad by any means, though, they were actually quite enjoyable, I liked the Sour Cream and Chive chips very much, the flavour was so good, but the consistency and texture wasn't the best. They also had about the same amount of fat as regular chips, but they contain a lot of fiber, which is great. We tried two different flavours of quinoa chips, although there are actually more. One of them as I mentioned was Sour Cream and Chive (Chart 1) and the second one Sundried Tomato and Roasted Garlic (Chart 2). I'll add the nutritional charts as well, so you can get the general idea of that as well. I'll note that the charts are from their homepage and they have somehow mixed up the values of calories, the first line should be kJ and second one kcal.

The second type of chips they offer, is lentil chips, we only tried one flavour of these ones, since a lot of the flavours they have of lentil chips, they also have in the hummus chips range, but hummus ones have even less fat, so we opted for those ones. Anyway, these ones have 40% less fat than the average potato chip. The flavour we tried was Creamy Dill and it was very good, but when it comes to the texture, it was more like a cracker, rather than a chip. I still enjoyed them a lot. I added the chart below as well.

The last one I'm going to talk about is our favourite so far, the hummus chips, they have the best texture and taste to them. They also have the least fat in them, which totally contradicts our assumption that the more fat chips have, the better they are. These ones honestly I could eat instead of potato chips and feel like they are enough. We tried quite a few different flavours, I'll start with just the regular sea salt ones. They were very good, just like plain salt chips, they were good, not my favourite, but I enjoyed eating them. (Chart 4)
Next up the Creamy Dill flavoured chips, our favourites by far. They're just so good, so so good. I really recommend those to all chip lovers out there, they're amazing. (Chart 5)
We also tried Chilly and Lemon flavoured hummus chips, which at first didn't taste spicy at all, they didn't taste much like anything, but once you already have a few the spice really kicks in. Neither of us are huge fans of lemon or lime flavour, when it's added to chips, but with these ones it wasn't too strong. (Chart 6)
Last, but definitely not least, the Tomato and Basil flavoured hummus chips. It's another combination I'm not usually the biggest fan of, but these chips were very good, I enjoyed eating them very much and it's probably my second favourite flavour after the Creamy Dill one. (Chart 7)

So in general we really like the idea behind these chips and they taste very good. They might not look like much at first glance, but trust me they are good, very good. I would recommend them for sure.

Also, for those interested, the lentil and hummus ones that we tried didn't contain any gluten as well, so that's good to bare in mind.

They also have quite a few other interesting products we'd love to try out, all that are interested can go and check out their homepage, which I'll link HERE.

    1. Thank you for your comment. I think you meant 20 grams of carbohydrates, since they actually contain on average 1 gram or less sugar. I didn't talk much about the carbohydrate content, since it's about the same as for regular chips and they actually contain less sugar than regular potato chips, which I guess I should've mentioned. I just think they're a healthier choice since they have less fat and because of that also less calories and saturated fat. It's definitley not something to eat daily, just an alternative to those who like to eat chips every now and then. Anyway, thanks again for your comment, I probably should've talked a bit more about that in the post. :)

    1. Sugar is indeed a carbohydrate, but fiber and starch are also considered carbohydrates, that's why sugar is brought out separately on labels, at least that's what I've understood. However, carbohydrates are also quite commonly called sugars, although, chemically speaking it's not quite correct to say so.
And thank you for your comment, again :)
