Music recommendations: Melanie Martinez

It's time for another music recommendation post, haven't done one of these for a while, but I have been wanting to write about Melanie Martinez for a while, ever since Kai first introduced me to her. She is an American singer and songwriter, her music style is called "dark wave" and she mainly got popular thanks to The Voice, from where she was eliminated during the fifth week, nevertheles she has made a career for herself as a musician already.

We like her mainly because of her amazing song lyrics, they are very well written and really carry a meaning to them and they're always interesting to listen to. I also like the general feel of her first album "Cry Baby", it has a rather dark and slightly creepy vibe to it, but it's still so enjoyable. Her style is unique, not just music wise, but also visually. Her album is very well tied together and most of the songs sound alike in style and also in the way she sings them, but it all works together so well, that you can't get the songs out of your head, they are very haunting.

Now let's talk about a few of our favourite songs as well, although all of her songs are really good, then I would have to say that "Mad Hatter" is probably one of our favourites by far, it's so haunting and insane, in a good way, it really matches the title of the song and we both love it.

Another one of our favourites is "Training Wheels", again it's haunting and creepy, yet really really good. I can't describe it any better, you just have to listen to it and you'll see. I feel that with her music you either like that style or not, there's no inbetween, it's rather unique.

Some more songs that we would like to point out are "Cake", "Pity Party", "Dollhouse", "Soap" and well essentially the entire album, we recommend it and I'm also going to add some videos here at the end to give some examples. Enjoy!
