Eesti Laul 2017 First Semi Final - Our Afterthoughts

The first semi of Eesti Laul 2017 is over and it's time to say what we thought, 5 songs qualified to the final, must say we were not very happy with the results, although three of our favourites did make it to the final, the other two who did were a huge disappointment for us.

So the five qualifiers were: Elina Born, Ivo Linna, Lenna Kuurmaa, Whogaux & Karl-Kristjan and Ariadne.

The general look of the show was not the best this year, I feel like the stage could've been better and it didn't feel nor look as professional as usually. Another downside was that on the offical Estonian prodcaster didn't show the contest until the end, it went a bit over the time that it was supposed to, but the online prodcaster finished anyway and we couldn't even hear who was the last qualifier, I feel like they should've thought that through.

When it comes to the songs themselves, then our favourites were Elina Born, Lenna Kuurmaa, Carl-Philip, Whogaux & Karl-Kristjan and as a last qualifier we would've given the place to Laura, Uku or Leemet, their songs or performances could've been slightly better.

We don't really mind that Ivo Linna qualified, we didn't dislike the song, but it didn't feel like the right choice for Eurovision, it's an ok song otherwise, just not what we'd listen to.

The song and performance by Ariadne fell a little weak for us, it didn'f feel very natural nor convincing, we just didn't like it. We would've given the place in the final to others, if we had had the choice.

The most interesting performances were definitely by Uku and Laura, although the songs weren't our favourites. Leemet's performance was quite interesting as well, but he didn't look quite comfortable on stage.

All in all the show was ok, there was room for improvement, but generally it was enjoyable and we'll definitely be watching the second semi.
